A Melbourne panel split on whether strategy funding would reach autistic led enterprises

In short

At the 2024 Autistic Pride Day Symposium Kyriakos Gold argued that funding goes to people without lived experience and to big disability organisations. One panellist was unsure what would change, and a South Australian panellist was confident.

The story

At the 2024 Autistic Pride Day Symposium in Melbourne, on 8 June 2024, Kyriakos Gold, who hosted the session, put to a panel on national and state autism strategies the question he most wanted answered. He asked when to expect to see some money coming through.

A panellist said it was a question the panel had been asking as well. What could be said was that there was funding for the current stage, in which action items were being refined and short, medium and long term goals set. Beyond that, the panellist said, they were still campaigning for more information.
